[WSJ] iPhone 8 to replace Lightning connector with USB-C port


According to a WSJ report, Apple is planning to unveil a new iPhone 8 with an OLED display with new function area and will replace the Lightning connector with a USB-C connector. Apple switched to Lightning connector from the 30-pin Dock connector for iOS devices with the release of iPhone 5 in 2012 and MacBook Pro models has already implemented the USB type C by ditching the USB ports. So it’s hard to believe whether Apple will ditch lightning connector for USB-C or not.

KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi-Kuo’s claims that Apple plans to release three iPhone models this year and among them two models are set to feature traditional LCDs and the third one will have an OLED screen.

In addition, Apple’s next generation OLED based iPhone 8 will have 3GB of RAM like the current iPhone 7 Plus models with two storage options 64GB and 256GB.

As already rumored, iPhone 8 or iPhone X will come with an OLED display featuring Wireless Charging, and Iris scanning technology and since Apple’s 10th Anniversary will be the major update, iPhone 8 will feature 3D Touch Technology with higher pressure sensitive sensors with flexible OLED display featuring 5.8inch OLED edge to edge displayWireless Charging, Touch ID built into display, Second touch sensitive display on lower bezel, Smart connector, 10nm A11 chip, Dual 12mp wide angle + telephoto lens vertical3D camera technology and more. 

So reports also claims iPhone 8 could cost more than $1,000 due to a significant redesign and the use of many new components.
